To pursue his passion John Ogu joined many youth amateur clubs such as Akwa Starlets, Akwa United and Fly Sports Academic and performed outstandingly that one can do.
Late, he moved to Drava Ptuj on Ju;y 2006. He was in the club for four years showing the skills of bagging 8 goals in 97 games.
Ogu later made his way to Atletico CP on 1st July 2010 and his career in the club ended after six months. Then after, he moved to UD Almeria B on 1st of January 2011 and played for a couple of months for the club.
